East West Pizza Restaurant

Tufnell Park, London

Q&A Interior Designers were commissioned to design the brand identity and interior concept including complete reconfiguration of the layout and kitchen, extending into the back and garden of the property. The brand identity cements a recognisable pizza concept with richer Eastern colour palette which also carries into the interior design. We wanted to play down the cultural references within the concept and subtly use materials to express the regions. Blue hues are combined with rich terracotta tiles and exposed brickwork. Italian terrazzo floor tiles combine with bespoke designed clay tiles imported from India. Raw blackened steel frames with fluted glass act as dividing screens whilst walnut panels, polished brass lights and mirror offer a more decadent juxtaposition.

East West Pizza Restaurant was designed as a laid back destination restaurant that all generations of a single family could enjoy. It aims to disrupt the pizza scene with toppings such as butter chicken with truffled oyster mushroom but equally you could order a Margarita or burger and fries. Something for everyone, without the pretentiousness.

Our client and restauranteur Devinder Singh was a frequent visitor to Southern Italy and concludes “I am a huge admirer of how Italians from the southern regions, Puglia in particular, make their pizza and the light and gentle base found throughout the area provides the perfect stage for punchy Indian flavours.”

It has been a pleasure to work with Stephen from Q&A on this project. Throughout the process, their past experience in designing restaurants has been invaluable. His input on the overall layout and usability of the space made sure that there isn't any wasted space in the restaurant and the design elements are functional as well as aesthetically pleasing. Their brief was tough, design a modern yet welcoming restaurant with influence from the east and they have exceeded my expectations. We would strongly recommend them to anyone looking for their next project.
