Kibou Japanese Kitchen & Bar

Cheltenham

KIBOU is a Japanese Restaurant, ramen & sushi bar in Cheltenham & London.

Q&A Interior Designers were commissioned to design the new KIBOU Cheltenham which now houses a bar, lounge, Horigotatsu and Teppanyaki dining experience all offering a different pace and vibe.

Moving it's home from a tiny basement restaurant already in Cheltenham with a huge loyal clientele it was essential we maintained the intimacy of the original.

Our Interior Design in Cheltenham was inspired by the nostalgic night life of Tokyo's backstreets. This allowed us to divide the space in to more intimate dining experiences, creating privacy but never separated from the collective ambience.

KIBOU Cheltenham is also an eclectic destination bar and late night drinking den, evoking the golden age of whisky. With it's low slung sit up bar in the raised snug you can sip whisky or sake under the watchful gaze of the projected animated geisha girls that dominate the back bar display.

With it's stone cobbled thoroughfare, KIBOU is a journey through these backstreets under a blanket of Cherry blossom ceilings juxtaposed with sensual animated illustrations, beautifully painted ceramic tiles and walls all illuminated under red neon light.

High back chairs, bar stools and bespoke light shades are adorned with Japanese fabric patterns in a riot of colour offering luxury and style that both excite and delight the senses.

In contrast, steel fabricated structures with decorative glass, terracotta roof tiles and walnut cladding subtly take their architectural cues from traditional Japanese exteriors.

More Asian Restaurant Designs ➝

We were recommended Q&A because they had designed quite a few Japanese restaurants in the past.

Although clearly the brief was completely different for these venues, they interpreted our design requirement for an informal restaurant that combined seamlessly with a smart cocktail / drinking atmosphere.

It impresses from the back, front and inside and also operationally. I have never seen a better layout between bar and restaurant. Together with a number of innovative features and great use of colour we have a restaurant that we are hugely proud of and takings have exceeded our expectations by a mile. It is a classic.
